How To Get More Dedicated Music Fans
Would you like to learn simple ways to increase your musical fan base with loyal, dedicated, hard-core music fans and become the "hot band" in town? If you said "Yes", then read on!
In a nutshell, you will be able to turn more people into super fans by doing more than simply trying to get them to become fans of your music. You need to make a connection with them by filling their fundamental need - the need to feel important.
This is easier to do than it may seem at first, but many groups don't put any thought into growing their musical fan base in this way. If you apply the simple ideas from this lesson, you will be able to gain many new, hardcore music fans. This includes not only casual fans, but also the type that will go the extra mile for you and attract others to your music. This type of fan is worth 20, 30 or more "mild" fans!
Here are 3 benefits you will get from growing your number of loyal music fans:
1. Free Advertising: Hardcore, loyal fans of your music will tell their friends about you through word of mouth, online social networking sites, and also at the shows themselves. This will make your musical fan base grow on its own!
2. Larger Crowds: Most people do not go out to shows alone, so your fans will likely bring others to your show. The "super loyal" fans will also travel to see you at venues outside of your local area – making your more distant gigs more successful.
3. Better Gigs & More Money: The bottom line for the clubs is earning money through admission fees and drinks. Bring more people in (who are fans of your music) and you will get the better gigs and earn more money.
Here are a 5 simple things you can do to connect with your audience and get more of your fans to turn into SUPER fans:
1. Acknowledge Them: Make sure that the singer or front person of your band acknowledges the crowd in between and/or even during the songs. This will create a much more intimate feel for the audience. Far too many bands ignore the audience in between songs and do not interact with their fans during their set. Acknowledge the crowd while on stage and they will be drawn into your performance. Refer to some of your music fans by name while onstage and they will be sure to attend your next show!
2. Meet Them: Take a few minutes to meet members of the audience in between sets and / or after the show. Learn the names of your music fans! This may seem like a small thing to you, but this is a big deal to them. They likely look up to you and your band members, so taking the time to meet and talk with them will make them feel important. And they (the fans of your music) ARE important since they are the ones who will come to your future shows to support you. Make it a point for you and each of your band members to meet five to ten new fans of your music at every show you play and watch your fan base grow!
3. Keep It Positive: Even if you feel like your band didn't play or perform well during the show or you are angry at your drummer or the sound technician, always remain positive! Nothing can put a damper on a potential fan's evening like getting to meet the members of your band and then having to listen to them complain for several minutes.
4. Sincerely Thank Your Music Fans: Even though you may feel it was an off night for your band, the average listener will often not even notice what you and your band feel were obvious mistakes. Graciously thank your fans for their compliments and for listening to you.
5. Close The Deal: After you are finished talking to your fans, ask them to sign up for your email list. Offer them something in return, such as free mp3s, free download cards or other exclusive bonus materials that they wouldn't be able to otherwise obtain.
Bottom line: while you are working on expanding your musical fan base, remember that it is critical to be proactive about transforming "ordinary" music fans into "super loyal" fans.Yes your music will do some of the work, but you must do the rest.
